Erica Jong Signed & Inscribed "What Do Women Want?" – to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

First edition of Erica Jong's essay collection, inscribed by the author to Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her husband:

"For Ruth & Marty Ginsberg [sic] / Warmly / E J / 23 Sept 98."

The title nods to Freud's question to Marie Bonaparte about what a woman truly wants. Jong, best known for her 1973 novel Fear of Flying, a touchstone of second-wave feminism that sold more than 27 million copies, later called Ginsburg "a wonderful woman" and recalled teaching alongside her at the Salzburg Global Seminar. After Ginsburg's death, Jong's daughter Molly Jong-Fast wrote that her mother "thought of RBG as a GOD."

Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933-2020) co-founded the ACLU's Women's Rights Project in 1972, served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit from 1980, and was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Clinton in 1993.
